Stepping into Warriorship

Dear Friends,

We had a very warm, open and lively multi-generational gathering of warriors for Harvest of Peace at the Halifax Shambhala Centre on the equinox. There were many pies, cakes, cider and lovely items donated for the silent auction. We had a lot of fun!

As a community, we’ve come a long way from where we were last year. Teachers are beginning to return to Halifax—we are delighted to host Ringu Tulku Rinpoche on October 13 – 15 for a weekend program on The Sadhana of Mahamudra, and we are discussing teaching visits with Rabjam Rinpoche, Anam Thubten Rinpoche, and others in 2024.

The Sunday nyinthun sittings are well attended, we have a regular monthly open house, classes are starting up again, teenagers are gathering for discussions, and the centre has hosted several programs and retreats for about 50 practitioners… There is life, practice, and study at the centre!

And yet there is further to go and more we can do.

Current monthly operations at the Halifax Shambhala Centre run an average of about $13,500 each month, but our revenues—rents and monthly donations—are only about $10,000. We have been digging into our financial reserves to cover that shortfall of $3,500/month to make ends meet. But our reserves won’t last forever. Together, we can change that very simply.

Tax-deductible monthly donations are the ground of our centre’s finances. They’re the foundation that provides the financial stability we need to maintain our small and dedicated staff, to allow us to plan ahead, to invite visiting teachers and hold teaching programs, and to simply pay our bills and keep the doors open.

If you have the means and you’re inspired to support our community and help move it forward, if you want to create a firmer and more stable ground for rebuilding our community, please consider making monthly donations to the Halifax Shambhala Centre. To start your monthly donations, please go HERE.

If you’re already making a monthly donation—Thank you!! Please consider if your means allow you to increase your monthly donation. If every current monthly donor could increase their donation by just $15/month, or offer an additional one-time annual donation of $150, our current shortfall could be met. To increase your current monthly donation, please email Aimee Silver directly at shambhala.hfx.finance@gmail.com.

There is no such thing as an insignificant donation. All your support for our community, financial or simply aspirational, makes a big difference and is very welcome. Thank you very much for your support and for joining us on this journey.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let the Halifax Advisory Council know. You can reach us at [email protected] or speak to us individually.

Best wishes,
