The Halifax Shambhala Centre is committed to making its programs accessible to everyone. As a non-profit organization supported by program fees, donations and the energy of many volunteers we offer these pricing options:

  • Regular Price: This is the regular cost of the program, and helps cover operating costs of the centre as well as specific program costs like paying teachers and providing food.  If cost is an issue, please refer to our Generosity Policy, below.

  • Patron Price: For those who can offer more than the regular price, we have a patron price. Your generosity in offering the patron price helps cover the costs for others who are not able to pay the full price. Tax receipts are offered for all amounts above the regular program price.

  • Generosity Policy: In order to make our programs accessible to everyone, we have a generosity policy. If the program price is an obstacle for you, please decide what amount works for you and offer whatever you can. We appreciate any monetary or volunteer contributions you may wish to offer. Note – some programs have a minimum pricing threshold.

  • Volunteers: many of our satellite staff and core volunteers can attend programming for free or discounted pricing. We also look for volunteers to staff programs, this gives a behind the scenes look whil ealso being able to participate in much of the program. Please contact our Finance Manager for more infomation.

Setting up a payment plan for the full amount may also be an option to consider.  To make a generosity payment or payment plan, please contact our Finance Manager, by email or phone, for assistance.

There are many opportunities for volunteers to help make our activities, programs and resources available to the community. Please refer to the volunteering section.

Classes and retreat cost information:

  • Re-taking Classes – participants are welcome to re-take a class they have already attended for one-half of the program price. This applies only to core curriculum classes.
  • Refund Policy – there is a $25.00 non-refundable cancellation fee if you cancel your program registration within two weeks before a weekend or class program begins, unless otherwise stated.  After classes begin – there are no refunds except for emergencies. There will be no refunds for early departures from a program. For single evening lectures, there will be no refunds given.
  • Program Credit – program Credit may be granted by the Finance Manager in lieu of a refund. Program Credit can be used for up to the full amount of a program cost and expires after one year.
  • Teaching Gifts – at some extended retreats and programs, students may be inspired to offer a monetary gift to the teacher in appreciation for receiving the teachings, and in recognition of the years of training and understanding the teacher has cultivated.  This is optional and, if offered at an appropriate retreat, is an amount decided by the student.
  • Materials Fees &  Minimum Fees – some programs have a minimum fee or materials fee to cover materials, travel costs, and other expenses that the centre must meet for a specific program. We try to keep this as low as possible.
