Seeking Applications for Interim Manager Position Halifax Shambhala Centre (HSC)

The current Halifax Shambhala Centre Director, Meg Vigerstad, is retiring from her position effective September 21, 2022. A volunteer Advisory Council is consulting with the local community membership, the Shambhala Board and the HSC staff to develop a leadership structure and recruit the required personnel. It is anticipated that this process will take until at least late February 2023 (Shambhala Day).

An Interim Manager (IM) is required to maintain the operations of the centre during this period. The paid position is projected as half-time, with health benefits available.  The following are the main areas of responsibility:

  • Community – the Interim Manager (IM) is a reference point for the HSC, communicating with members and the larger community, and handling any issues that may arise.
  • Finance – work with HSC finance staff on budget management including approval of all major expenditures.
  • Building Access – develop a plan for increased access and security for the HSC, as usage is expected to grow over the coming months.
  • Building Maintenance – coordinate staff and volunteers in maintaining the building.
  • Practice and Education – support the HSC staff and volunteer committees to develop and implement a comprehensive and inclusive practice and education calendar.

The IM is expected to work closely with the HSC Advisory Council to ensure that community input is included in the ongoing decision-making process and will also report to the Shambhala Global Services Office of Leadership Support as required.

We are seeking an individual with the following experience, skills, and interests:

  • Cultivating community – dedication to bringing our community together, working with related challenges, and engaging in a process of inclusion and respect.
  • Management – has some management experience, including the ability to work with ambiguity and conflict and to speak with ease in public.
  • Practice and Study – a broad knowledge of the study and practice background within the Halifax Shambhala community.

A more comprehensive formal job description is available to those interested in applying for the position.

If you are interested in helping us with filling this need – either through stepping forward yourself or nominating someone for us to contact, please email the HSC Search Committee at [email protected].

It is truly a time when our practice and understanding is challenged and is also a huge opportunity.

Yours,

The HSC Advisory Council
