Community Gathering:

Designing Leadership for 2023 and Beyond

Saturday, January 28, 3:00-5:30 pm

Halifax Shambhala Centre

The community is warmly invited to join an interactive and urgent discussion about how to structure and support the leadership of the Halifax Shambhala Centre – including director(s), staff, advisors, and volunteer leadership. This discussion comes at a critical juncture:

  • Community members have expressed a desire to expand centre offerings to host various Shambhala and Buddhist practices, arts, families, youth, and friends of Shambhala (e.g., social justice, environmental advocates). How can we make this happen in terms of people and finances?
  • Shari Vogler and Liza Matthews are stepping down on Shambhala Day as Interim Manager and Director of P&E respectively, leaving Aimee Silver and Sam Howard as the only continuing centre staff.

Please join us to brainstorm:

  • What leadership model we want, including directorship (single or shared?), volunteer leadership, advisory group, and core staff
  • How we build the financing to support our desired model.

You will also be able to see a preview of the revamped upstairs space that now displays artifacts from the Shambhala Archives. Chocolates will be served!

Come in person if you can, but a Zoom option is available to attend here for those who can’t.

Note: A report on HSC’s 2022 Year End Financials and 2023 Projections is underway. Please look for these details to be shared soon. While we will meet all financial obligations for 2023, we will significantly dig into our cash reserves. It is anticipated that without an increase in program income and donations, we could experience a shortfall in early 2024. Concentrated efforts are already in place to plan for visiting teachers to mitigate this risk. Thank you to all those who have started or increased donations in the past months! Please stay tuned!

Warmly,

The Shambhala Centre Staff and Advisory Group
