This vajrayana class is designed to complement Saturday’s “Meeting the Shambhala Lineage” (more info here: It is intended as a time for vajrayana students of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche’s teachings to gather and relax.

In the morning, we will do opening chants with a lhasang before taking an in-depth look at the symbolism and meaning of the Shambhala lineage tangka and its relationship with faith. After a break we will do a simplified session of the Primordial Rigden Ngöndro, focusing on refuge and guru yoga. We will conclude the morning with a discussion circle.

In the afternoon we’ll continue with a talk on Gesar, the Rigdens, and the Sakyongs before a guided session of Dharmaraja Guru Yoga. After a break we’ll have a talk on feast and samaya. We will conclude with a short session of guru yoga followed by a feast practice for ngondro and sadhana practitioners attending the program.

Walker Blaine has studied and practiced in the Shambhala tradition for 35 years. For the last ten years, his primary focus in the community has been background support of the Shambhala path through composition of practice instructions, program support, transcription coordination, Tibetan translation work, and caring for the texts and instructions of the Shambhala Buddhist tradition. Walker’s ebook, The Great River of Blessings an account of the Rinchen Terdzö received by the Sakyong in the winter of 2008-2009, can be downloaded here. His two CDs of Buddhist music can be sampled on iTunes. In 2016 he premiered a five-act Shambhala comedy, Norbu and the Mystery of the Missing Ratna. He lives with his wife Patricia and their son Griffin Arrow in Halifax.
