Introduction to Buddhism and the Refuge Vow

    with Acharya Eve Rosenthal

    March 25, 2017 – 2-5pm

This session is for those who want to learn more about the core principles of Buddhism and what it means to become a Buddhist by taking the Refuge Vow.

We will explore the following topics:

    • Buddhism and Shambhala – how they are related

    • The Buddhist path

    • The three jewels of Buddhism – the Buddha as example, the Dharma or “truth”, and the Sangha – companions on the path

    • The meaning of taking a vow – proclaiming a strong conviction and commitment to action

    • The Refuge Vow – formally becoming a Buddhist

    • The Heart of the Refuge vow – making a commitment to abandon harmful acts and adopt beneficial ones

    • The relationship of meditation to all of the above

Everyone is welcome. Those who are contemplating taking the Refuge vow are strongly encouraged to attend.

     This event is by donation.
