An Invitation to Share Thanksgiving from Engage Nova Scotia
Join fellow Nova Scotians in hosting new families this thanksgiving weekend as a part of the national movement : Share Thanksgiving.
Share Thanksgiving is an initiative that connects newcomer immigrants and established Canadian families for Thanksgiving dinner. It bridges a divide between Canadians, inviting families to learn about each other and share a new experience.
We are reaching out to the Buddhist sangha to volunteer as hosts this October 10th to 13th. Go online, fill out the hosting questionnaire, pick which day you’d like to host, and we’ll do the work of matching you up.
Nova Scotia has a history of welcoming newcomers that started over 400 years ago with the Mi’kmaq, who supported early European settlers with food, shelter and survival skills for long, cold winters. That tradition has continued as wave after wave of immigrants has populated Nova Scotia and chosen to make it their home. Even to this day, nothing says Nova Scotia hospitality like a hearty meal of locally-sourced food shared with new friends and old.
This year, why not put your own spin on this time-honoured tradition by welcoming a family of new Nova Scotians to your home for Thanksgiving Dinner? Share your home, share your story, share what you’ve come to love about Nova Scotia. We have much to be thankful for – not the least of which is the companionship of neighbours and friends.

This sounds like something with which I would like to be involved.
