A Harvest of Peace Teaching: Generosity Beyond Doubt

On Saturday afternoon, the Halifax Shambhala Community will gather for our annual Harvest of Peace celebration, a time when we get together to enjoy each others company, our Shambhala teachings and culture, and often, to make a donation to support our local center and global Shambhala community. (LEARN MORE about Harvest of Peace here.)

Being asked to make a donation can stir up a  variety of thoughts and emotions, and usually we don’t stop to notice or contemplate our feelings about wealth and generosity in these moments  before we’re on to something else.

This Harvest of Peace, Acharya Dan Hessey, in Boulder Colorado, asks us to think more deeply about these topics, and offers teachings on the meaning of wealth and generosity from the point of view of the Shambhala teachings.

“When someone asks you to give, they’re saying ‘Oh, I see you as a rich person.’ So the next question wants to be, ‘What do you mean, rich?’” says Acharya Hessey in his conversation with Cal Aston. Together they unpack this tricky topic, and explore how Shambhala views the notion of wealth, our attitudes about giving, and what it would mean to work with these topics without fear and aggression. You’re invited to watch their video below.

Everyone is welcome to join us for the Harvest of Peace on Saturday from 12-3pm. We hope to see you there! (DONATE ONLINE HERE.)
