Harvest of Peace
Sun September 22nd: 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM In Room(s): Main Shrine Room A joyous celebration with an address from the Sakyong, friends, food and festivities
Our community has adopted a tradition of celebrating the changes of the seasons. These are called nyida days, from the Tibetan words nyima ("sun") and dawa ("moon"). Nyida days occur on or near the days of the equinoxes and solstices. All four nyida days are regarded as family-oriented celebrations. Harvest of Peace, held around the time of the autumn equinox, is an opportunity for local communities to gather, hear teachings by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, and celebrate the riches of our local cultures and heritage.
You are cordially invited to this special occasion to gather and listen to the Sakyong’s annual Harvest of Peace address (pre-recorded this year). We will have activities for children, including cookie decorating and face painting; the cookies will be served along with wine and apple cider and other delectable treats after the address. We will welcome the new babies, introduce new members and the Shambhala leadership, and announce salon locations.
Salons are defined as an assembly of guests gathered in a home for lively social discussion, friendly debate and intelligent conversation. They are to be held post Harvest of Peace, after the Sakyong announces the topics for discussion during his address. Dekyongs are scheduling delek salons and other locations will be announced at Harvest of Peace for those deleks without a dekyong. Click here if you are not familiar with the delek system.
